The distinguished British actress Helen Mirren, previously winner of an Oscar statuette, several BAFTA honors, three Golden Globes, five Emmys, and a Tony, will soon add another prestigious accolade to her collection: the Cecil B. DeMille Globes' career honor.

Ceremony Details

Dame Helen, eighty, previously given a damehood back in 2003 and named a BAFTA fellow back in 2014, will pick up this honor during a presentation on 8 January, three days before the main Golden Globes occur, during a program described by the Golden Globes as the “Golden Eve”.

This will also include the awarding of the Golden Globes’ Carol Burnett prize for television achievement, the honoree for which has yet to be announced. The prior year’s honorees were Viola Davis and Ted Danson.

“Mirren stands as a powerhouse performer, with a career is nothing short of extraordinary,” said the Golden Globes president, president of the Golden Globes. “Her brilliant portrayals and devotion to her art persistently influence generations of artists and fans too. We are deeply honored to bestow upon her the Cecil B DeMille award.”

Notable Roles

The star gained prominence during the seventies with key roles in stage productions at London’s West End and through the Royal Shakespeare Company and in films including O Lucky Man!, Caligula & The Long Good Friday.

In the 1990s, her starring role in detective drama Prime Suspect broadened her fanbase further. Additional notable movies include Excalibur, The Madness of King George, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, Gosford Park & Calendar Girls.

She earned an Academy Award for her portrayal as Elizabeth II in the cinematic work The Queen, a character she reprised during 2013 within The Audience, the stage production by Peter Morgan regarding the encounters between the queen and premier Thatcher, a role for which she received a Tony Award back in 2015.

Recent and Upcoming Projects

• Subsequent cinematic works include Hitchcock, The Last Station, Woman in Gold, The Debt, Golda and Barbie, for which she provided narration.
• Her role in the Netflix version of The Thursday Murder Club has garnered acclaim and honors speculation is building about her portrayal as an ailing family head in Winslet’s initial directorial project, Goodbye June.
• In the coming year, she will appear portraying Patricia Highsmith in Corbijn’s dramatic film, Switzerland.

Golden Globe nods will be declared December 8, with the film by Paul Thomas Anderson One Battle After Another, Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet and Ryan Coogler’s Sinners anticipated to be prominent.
