New Year Revelers Told to Wrap Up Warm with Wintry Weather Forecast Across the UK
Weather experts are reporting an icy start to the new year, with snow anticipated throughout a lot of the UK. Revelers are advised to bundle up as near-freezing temperatures are predicted for New Year's Eve.
Festive Events Continue Despite Forecasts
The Scottish capital's famous Hogmanay events are planned to go ahead, a contrast to last year's cancellation. This comes despite advisories for snow in northern Scotland.
"A cold New Year's Eve evening for those out celebrating, so additional clothing will be essential," said the Met Office.
Fireworks Under Mostly Clear but Cold Skies
Elsewhere in the UK, the weather is likely to be ideal for fireworks displays, with no rain and clear skies. The mercury are forecast to be cold, meaning extra layers a necessity, according to forecasters.
Further north, conditions will be more overcast, but this is unlikely to affect visibility for viewing fireworks. "We are not looking at low cloud, mist or murk, so you ought to be able to see fireworks, just not stars," remarked one forecaster.
Widespread Weather Alerts for Friday
Moving into Friday, advisories have been issued for Northern Ireland and stretching from Wales, over the north-west, the West Midlands and reaching London and most of the south-east of England.

Temperatures Forecast to Drop Further
As 2026 begins, it will be "frosty everywhere where you are," stated forecaster Simon Partridge. Temperatures are set to fall even more as snowfall and high winds are predicted to affect the north of the country.
About 10cm of snow could accumulate to have built up in some areas by Friday morning, with up to 30cm on the highest roads and hills.
