Citizens have gathered throughout the country to mark the second anniversary since the Hamas-led attack on October 7th, 2023, as discussions proceeded in Egypt over a conclusion to the hostilities in the Gaza Strip.

The attack resulted in over 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others captured back to Gaza as prisoners. It was the most most lethal day for the Jewish community since the Second World War.

Israel responded by beginning a military offensive in Gaza which has killed more than 67,000 people, based on figures from the region's Hamas-run health ministry. Its figures are considered reliable by the UN and other international bodies.

"The aggressive adversaries have hit us hard, but they have not broken us," Benjamin Netanyahu remarked on that day.

He also vowed to "realize all the objectives of the war: the homecoming of all the kidnapped, the removal of the Hamas government and the assurance that Gaza will no longer present a threat to Israel".

Remembrance Ceremonies Across Israel

The government authorities delayed formal memorials until October 16th - after the end of the religious holiday season - but ceremonies still occurred around the country on Tuesday.

A memorial ceremony for the families of Israelis killed in the Hamas assault was held in the coastal city. Organized by the families themselves, it was broadcast on Israeli TV networks.

Hours earlier, a moment of silence was respected throughout the country.

Ceasefire Discussions in Egypt

Meanwhile, Israeli and Hamas negotiating teams convened in the Egyptian coastal city of the Egyptian city for a continuing round of third-party negotiations to discuss the conditions of the agreement.

A prominent delegate knowledgeable about the talks indicated that an late session of mediated discussions began at evening in Egypt.

The official said the day's discussions finished without concrete outcomes, amid conflicting views over the proposed Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over assurances Hamas demands to ensure Israel does not recommence fighting after the first phase of the agreement.

He noted that the negotiations are "challenging and have still not achieve any major advancement," but pointed out that mediators are striving to narrow the differences between the two sides.

Critical Issues in Discussions

  • A lasting ceasefire
  • The exchange of the hostages still kept by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners from Gaza
  • The pullout of troops from Gaza
  • Plans for humanitarian aid distribution
  • Future management of the territory

Citizen Feeling

In the city's Hostages Square that day, 29-year-old Hagar - whose sibling survived the incident on the Nova music festival, where many attendees were murdered and many more were captured by Hamas gunmen - shared: "No place appears as home anymore and until all the hostages come back not a single person will be secure."

"After we see all home again, we can breathe again. Then we can begin to rebuild," she continued.

In front of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's residence in the capital, people assembled to show their solidarity for the relatives of the captives. Israel states forty-eight stay in detention in Gaza, twenty of whom are thought to be living.

Protester Atalia Regev remarked: "It's necessary do every compromise needed for the abducted to return. But we sincerely need promises that we will be safe."

Surveys now regularly indicate that approximately the majority of the population prefer the conflict to end in as payment for the liberation of the captives.

Gaza Conditions

At the location of the gathering, those paying respects came together to pay their respects.

From the site, the boom of military attacks and artillery could be heard just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where observers said the intense Israeli shelling continued.

In the urban center, bombardments were reported in the morning of Tuesday in the west side district, sector and Nasr neighbourhoods and in the eastern area of that sector, as well the settlement to the north-west.

"As the evening comes, the dread arrives with it," displaced Gaza City resident a mother, whose teenage son was lost his life by an Israeli air strike last year, explained.

"Me and my three children are terrified of the attacks. During nighttime we are sleeping together, clinging, notably my youngest child who places his face on me throughout the night."

"Continuously we look at the updates to see the situation. And I'm concerned that this ceasefire will not be completed and that the war will return to us."

Humanitarian Situation

The medical facility in the urban area said it had received the bodies of six people by the daytime, including several who died in an Israeli strike in the southern area.

Another medical facility in the south region of Khan Younis indicated additional dead people had been transported. An individual was lost his life by Israeli soldiers while attempting to get aid to the south region, medical staff stated.

The region's health ministry announced twenty-five of the {territ
