The teenager has featured in seven games for Real Madrid, including five appearances in the starting lineup.

Whenever a teenage makes club a historic moment in a crucial Champions League match against Manchester City, it inevitably draws praise and the spotlight.

During his maiden start in the tournament - and fifth appearance for the team - the young midfielder suitably impressed as the 15-time Champions League winners claimed a 3-0 round of 16 first-leg lead at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The young player, who also had his Real debut in the qualifying round a few weeks prior with a substitute appearance at Sporting Lisbon, then assisted the Madrid side overcome the English Premier League side in the midweek second leg to secure a quarter-final place.

At 18 years and 226 days, Pitarch was the club's most youthful starter to start twice in the Champions League knockout stages, beating star Vini Jr's record by a week and a half.

Rapid Ascent Through The Academy

This talent is the latest to come through from the famed youth system and is rapidly cementing himself as one of the manager's most exciting young players.

He joined Real from Leganes in 2023, having previously been with Atletico Madrid and Getafe academies, and initially featuring for the under-19 side, where he quickly made a positive impact.

Pitarch progressed to the B team and it was during a friendly match in which they played against the senior squad, then coached by the former defender, where the teenager is said to have caught the attention of the present manager, who replaced the previous coach in the new year.

Reports would later label the moment as "love at first sight," noting Pitarch excelled not only for his technical ability, but for the vitality, personality and drive he brought to the team.

'His Best Attribute Remains His Personality'

In the summer of 2025, ex-manager Alonso invited Pitarch to train with the first team and awarded him playing time in the warm-up matches.

However, it was the change in manager that became the defining moment in his development as he was introduced as a late substitute in each leg against Benfica that led to the meeting with Pep Guardiola's team.

"I have dreamed of this every night when sleeping, the very first time I began playing the game, every day you head to training and every day you play a match," stated the player after his debut.

"I have just achieved my ambition with the best team in the world and in the top tournament."

Handed a starting debut in the Spanish league against Getafe - where he was for four years after arriving from Atletico in 2018 - he has kept his spot for the next four as fitness issues to Bellingham and Ceballos created an opportunity.

The teenager has taken it with displays that have belied his age and inexperience.

"He is a extremely fast player, and you can observe what he's capable of," remarked the coach. "He is incredibly dynamic, with great stamina, work-rate and movement."

The player's mindset has also impressed his coach.

"His standout trait is his character," continued Arbeloa. "He constantly demands the ball, and when pressed, he remains unfazed.

"I realize fans might be surprised to watch him make his debut in a European fixture, but he's playing because I had total trust in him to perform what he usually does.

"He will continue to get opportunities with the main squad. It's a pleasure to coach a talent like him."

Spain or Morocco?

Pitarch was born in a Madrid suburb, in the Madrid region, and grew up fully immersed in Spanish football, progressing through local academies before joining Real Madrid's famous La Fabrica system.

He possesses dual Spanish and Moroccan citizenship, giving him the option to play for both nations at the highest level.

According to Fifa eligibility rules, players may appear for different countries at junior level without being permanently tied, with the final decision only final once they play in a competitive full international.

Pitarch has played for Spain at underage levels, representing both the U19 and under-20 teams, and took part in the 2025 Youth World Cup, where La Roja made it to the quarter-finals.

Despite this, he has not yet decided to any senior national team, who are watching his rise with interest.

Speaking recently, Pitarch said: "I have not taken my final decision yet. My situation is positive with Spain, but I will reach a decision soon."

This scenario echoes that of other dual nationality players such as club colleague Brahim Diaz and Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal. While teenage Yamal chose Spain, Brahim decided to play for the Atlas Lions.

Focus on the Future

At present, his attention is on establishing himself in the Real side and repaying Arbeloa's faith.

He played over an hour in the 2-1 win at the Etihad, which completed a five-one aggregate success and a quarter-final matchup with Bayern Munich.

He was replaced by another academy player in Angel to emphasise the coach's confidence in younger players to help the team chase future success.

Following his impressive impact to date on the Champions League, the midfielder is tipped to be a central figure in that.

"Arbeloa treats me the identical way. We deal with it very naturally. I try not to think about it excessively - I have to earn my playing time on the field," he commented following the success at Etihad Stadium.
